Hi everyone

Lots happening this month, so get prepared for a busy one!  We’ve got a Xmas in July dance, a rockabilly dance night, a Xmas in July dinner dance and lots more to keep you busy in this freezing weather!

Thanks heaps to those of you who performed at the Motorlife Museum car show in June.  The Museum President was extremely happy and sent us a great email thanking everyone.

If you have booked tickets with us to the Hot Rod Rumble being held at the Towradgi Beach Hotel on Saturday 3^rd July, please meet us by 6.45pm in the Sports Bar.  There are no individual tickets – just one main one.  There are 30 of us going, so please try and be punctual as we all need to go in together.  If you haven’t booked with us, tickets are still available at the bottle shop at the pub.  Bands are the Detonators and Jordan & the Original Six.  This will be a great night of rockabilly – something we don’t get too often in the Illawarra. 

A recent fundraiser held at Dapto Citizens Bowling Club for the Illawarra Cancer Carers was a huge success.  A big thanks to Bev & Jeff Dunnell and the Committee for organising a great night.  Over 200 people attended and a total of $6,000 was raised and will be used to support the Cancer Care Centre.

A total of $3,367 was raised at the recent Benefit night for Joanne from Crushed Ice.  300 people turned out to celebrate with Joanne and Stan and had a great night.  Joanne is from the popular duo Crushed Ice and she has been diagnosed with Cancer and money raised will go towards medical costs etc.

Westside Rockers are holding a 10^th Anniversary Dance on Friday 30^th July at Wests Illawarra.  The band is the Flaming Stars.  Cost is $10 at the door.  Everyone welcome to attend.  Flaming Stars are an awesome band.

A really good Sydney rock n roll band will be playing at Warilla Bowls club on Friday 23^rd July.  The band is the Jive Katz and it’s a free night.

Footloose Rockers

COURSE INFORMATION

New 5 week courses start next week commencing 5^th July at all the usual venues.  A full timetable can be found at the end of this newsletter.

ROCK N ROLL ROUTINE

We are starting a new Rock n Roll Routine, which will be performed at this year’s Xmas Party (which is on 4^th December).  This class will be held on Wednesday nights at Dapto Leagues at 9.15pm, and starts Wednesday 5^th July straight after the Intermediate Rock n Roll class.

There is no charge for this class, but there is one proviso of you doing the class.  You must commit to doing it at the Xmas Party or at public demonstrations.

Everyone is welcome to learn it, but you should be at a minimum of Intermediate level and it is preferable if you organise a partner beforehand. 

This is a great way of remembering a routine to do while you are out social dancing.  It’s not easy to remember all the moves in order, but it is certainly rewarding and fun.  We will be putting it together over the coming months and then practicing it throughout the year. 

CORRIMAL LEAGUES SOCIAL

The next Footloose social dances with DJ Ray at Corrimal Leagues Club are on Sunday 4^th July and Sunday 1^st August.  Cost is $5 for adults and kids are free, but must be supervised.  The club has a great bistro if you want to have dinner before heading upstairs to the dance.   Everyone is welcome, including your friends and family.  Time is 6 – 9.30pm.

LEARN TO ROCK N ROLL DVD

The new Beginners Learn to Rock n Roll DVD is being edited, and is due for release early in July.  It covers 12 basic moves and has 5 bonus moves. The price of the DVD is $40.  Orders and payments can be made at the desk at classes or you can email me at footloose@hotkey.net.au and I will give you payment details.

The DVD has full instructions on every move.  Each move is shown and taught as it would in a normal dance class, and is then danced by our dance team for you to see how it's done.  Each series of 4 moves are then put into a routine for you to practice.  This DVD will be a great learning aid to complement your dance classes.

XMAS IN JULY DANCE

We are holding a ROCK N ROLL XMAS IN JULY dance at Port Kembla Leagues Club on SATURDAY 10^TH JULY.  A new LOCAL ROCK N ROLL Band called THE BLUE RAYS will be playing.  One of our students, Colin Hardcastle is the lead singer, and the band consists of members who have been playing to Wollongong crowds for years. 

Time is from 7.30 until around 11.30pm in the main auditorium.  Cost is only $5 at the door for adults and kids are free, and we ask that you bring some Xmas decorations or tinsel for your table and you can bring some nibblies if you want to.  There’ll be a prize for the best-dressed table.

The Blue Rays promise to bring us a great nights entertainment and dancing to a variety of traditional rock n roll songs, bluesy numbers for our Rock n Jive dancers and also some swing numbers as well.  Let’s get behind our local boys and support this night.  Everyone is welcome – bring your friends and family.  If you want to, dress in Xmas colours of Red, Green, Silver, etc. 

AMERICAN MUSCLE CAR SHOW

We are doing a dance demonstration on Sunday 4^th July at the American Muscle Car show which is on from 10am to 3pm at the Towradgi Beach Hotel.  We will be getting there around 11.30 to 12 noon and dancing at 12.15 and throughout the afternoon. 

You don’t need to be there all day, but it is a great day which is held in the beer garden of the hotel.  There’ll be a great rockabilly band called the NITRO ROCKERS, a big hot rod and custom car show in the car park with stalls as well.  If you would like to dance at this great day, please let me know.  Please wear Footloose shirts/skirts or black pants if you have them.  Might be an idea to bring some warm clothes to change into though.  We’ll also need helpers to hand out flyers, so if you don’t want to dance, you can just come along and join us for a fun day.

XMAS IN JULY DINNER DANCE

Dapto Citizen’s Bowling Club (Fowlers Rd Dapto) is putting on a Xmas in July dinner dance on Saturday 24^th July, and the band is THE TORNADOES.  The cost of tickets is $20 per head and includes a 2 course dinner.  A few raffles will be held on the night, and a portion of the ticket cost will go to the PALLIATIVE CARE UNIT at Pt Kembla Hospital.  Footloose will be performing a dance demonstration.

If you are interested in coming along, please put your name down on the list on the desk at classes along with your $20 payment.  Closing date for tickets is 15^th July (unless sold out prior).

CITY DIGGERS DANCE

The next Footloose social dance with a top Sydney Rock n Roll band at the City Diggers Club is on Saturday 7^th August and the band will be AT THE HOP.  Doors open at 7.30pm and the band starts at 8pm and goes until 11.30pm.  Cost is $10 at the door and kids under 14 are free.

Parking is available in the David Jones car park right next door to the club.  Cost is $5 until midnight.  Everyone is welcome.  Please try and support these nights.  We are now down to only having 6 a year due to the fact that numbers have been down lately.  If you want rock n roll dances to keep going in the Illawarra, we need your continuing support, otherwise the club will cancel them all together.

ROSE SEIDLER HOUSE 50’s FAIR DAY

Every August, Rose Seidler House which is an authentic 1950’s house in Wahroonga (northern suburbs of Sydney) celebrates with a Fair Day. This year it will be held on 29^th Aug from 10am – 5pm, and we are thinking of organising a bus to take a group up.

The day features live bands playing rockabilly, jump blues and swing music, dancing demonstrations. Specialist collectors and dealers will sell fabulous 50s pieces including household gadgets, toys, jewellery, knick-knacks, books, clothing and furniture.

Tours of the house will be offered throughout the day.  If you are interested in going on a bus with us, please put your name down on the list at the desk at classes by 16 July.  At the moment this is just an “expression of interest” and there is nothing set in concrete as far as prices etc are concerned.  Once we find out if we have enough to organise a bus, we’ll let you know a price, time, pickups etc.

NEW - ROCK N ROLL MARKET

New Rock n Roll Markets are starting on SUNDAY 8^TH AUGUST at Jet’s Sports Club, 2 Holbeach Avenue Tempe (Sydney).  It features a fabulous array of stalls including: Vintage, Rock 'n' Roll, Rockabilly, Burlesque Clothing, Jewellery and Accessories, Record's, CD's, Vintage Home wares, Collectables, Memorabilia, Art, Books, Comics, DVDs, etc and a Jumping Castle and Face Painting for the kids. Great food is available all day. 

The Satellites, one of Australia's favourite Rockabilly bands will be playing and DJ Limpin’ Jimmy & the Swingin’ Kitten will also be there.  Markets Commence at 11am,  Live Music from 1pm.  FREE ADMISSION.  Ample Parking Available.  Future Markets will be held the 3rd Sunday of each Month.

FOOTLOOSE DANCE DEMONSTRATIONS

We have 2 more demos coming up in September.  The first is on Sunday 5^th Sept at the Dapto Street Fair at approximately 12.30, and the next one is on Sunday 19^th Sept at the Bulli Show at 12 noon.  Please put these dates in your diary if you can help us out by dancing.  All details in the next newsletter.

NEW ZEALAND HOLIDAY

Why not join us for the holiday of a lifetime on a ROCK N ROLL CRUISE to NEW ZEALAND in FEBRUARY 2011.  It’s from 20^th Feb to 5^th March 2011.  We already have over 50 people booked, so this will be one holiday not to miss out on!  The cruise is on the SUN PRINCESS, and it goes to 8 destinations in both the north and south islands of NZ.  See Sue for a flyer.  Everyone is welcome to join us  - including family & friends. 

PLEASE NOTE - IMPORTANT:  Too be able to join in our activities, you must book with the Rock n Roll Travel Club on 1800 654 899.  If you book through a different travel agent, you cannot be included in our group lessons, cocktail party, tours etc.  The Travel Club organises these activities privately.
